Brightwork newmusic's Tuesdays @ Monk Space - For LA: a celebration of resiliency ๐ŸŒ†

Last Tuesday, June 21st, 2022, Brightwork newmusic closed their Tuesdays @ Monk Space (#SugarBank) season with a BANG!

Featuring multiple acts across two stages at @Monk_Space, some of LA's loved new music artists, chamber ensembles, and presenters took the stage for a one-of-a-kind concert experience! ๐ŸŽถ

All proceeds from the event ticket sales and donations went towards the Tuesdays @ Monk Space performers' fund so that the artists were compensated correctly ๐Ÿ™

Tuesdays @ Monk Space is a monthly concert series featuring cutting-edge new music and adventurous interdisciplinary arts programming offering world-class musicians and the most promising up-and-coming local, national, and international musicians.


For Brightwork newmusic's Tuesdays @ Monk Space Season Finale, these stellar musicians below donated their time to play short sets in two separate performance areas in Monk Space! ๐ŸŽถ


#TheBrightworkEnsemble, the in-house ensemble of Brightwork newmusic, is among the best chamber musicians in the world, striving to find new and exciting ways to connect with audiences. They opened the night with accessible chamber pieces suited for Monk Space's Warehouse.


Aperture Duo (@Aperture_Duo) performed a moving, often dissonant set for violin and viola.



Rachel Beetz (@RachelBeetz) played selections from her recent flute and electronics album, "Unofficial," available on Orenda records: https://orendarecords.bandcamp.com/album/unofficial.


Ron Squibbs, courtesy of Cold Blue Records, flew out from the East Coast to perform a solo piece by Peter Garland featured on his new release.


HOCKET (@HOCKETensemble): (@SarahGibsonComp) and Thomas Kotcheff (@ThomasKotcheff) brought their brilliant pianist-composer magic for a short set of duos.

Music for Your Inbox (@MusicForYourInbox) took over the Monk Space lobby to show archival music videos from a projector. Some of their mail art from the past season was also on display.


Isaac Schankler (@Piesaac, @PeopleInsideElectronics) performed a droning set for the accordion and two oscillators.


John Schneider (@JohnOSchneider) performed Harry Partch's BARSTOW: 8 Hitchhiker inscriptions (1941) for baritone and adapted guitar.

Scott Worthington (@STWBass) played an eerie, sometimes clamorous set for contrabass.


#TastingMenu: Tim Feeney (@TheOtherTimFeeney) and Cassia Streb (@CassiaSoundsLikeThis) presented a 15-minute set for found objects, small percussion, and viola.


Eclipse Quartet performed a set of transcendent, forward-thinking music for violin, viola, and cello.

Mak Grgiฤ‡ (@MakGuitar) and Meagan Martin (@OpernDiva7) opened the night with sensual, emotional pieces for voice and classical guitar.
